BRADFORD – Holding on to a 4-0 lead over Riverside in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Ansonia softball team appeared to be well on their way to a sectional championship title game Tuesday at host school Bradford.
Riverside quickly closed the gap with a three-run bottom of the fifth to narrow the margin to 4-3 off hot bats and costly infield mistakes by the Lady Tigers.
Scoring the tying run in the bottom of the sixth, the game extended into extra-innings knotted up at four runs a piece.
Holding on to the momentum, the Lady Pirates finished the game with a base hit into centerfield to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, knocking Ansonia out of postseason play.
The Lady Tigers finished their regular season with a record of 13-15 – according to cccsports.net and a tournament record of 2-1.
