Lady Wave run-rules Stebbins on the road

DAYTON – The Greenville Lady Wave earned their seventh run-rule victory of the season defeating the Stebbins Lady Indians 13-2 in a Wednesday night road win with Coach Jerrod Newland giving many of his starters night off.

“Great team win,” said Newland. “Playing hard having fun. Five to six kids had the night off, resting and recovering and excited for some kids to get some reps.”

The Lady Wave came out swinging in the top of the first plating nine runs with Zoe Pressnall, Natea Davidson, Allison Powell, Brooklynn Bush, Courtney Bryson and Haleigh Mayo each picking up RBIs in the opening frame.

Greenville added four runs to the board in the top of the second with Grace Shaffer and B. Bush both driving in a run and the big blow a two run double to center of the bat of Mayo to give the Lady Wave a 13-0 win.

Stebbins would plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth but it was not enough to keep the Lady Wave from earning a run-rule win in the minimum five innings of OHSAA play.

Caitlin Christman pitched the opening three innings for the Wave allowing no runs, no walks, striking out two and giving up two hits. Wave freshman Grace Shaffer tossed the final two innings for Greenville.

Greenville totaled 13 hits with Mayo, Pressnall, Shaffer, Davidson, and Megan Johnston each accounted for multiple hits for the Lady Wave varsity team.

“Move to 10-3 and 6-0 in the league,” Newland noted. “Excited about the next half of the season and all our goals in front of us.”

“Next 10 wins will be tougher and the last 10 will be awesome,” added Newland.
