PITSBURG – The Greenville Lady Wave JV and varsity teams traveled to Franklin Monroe Monday night to face the Lady Jets in an early season basketball scrimmage.
The scrimmage between the two Darke County schools gave both Franklin Monroe Coach Abbey Moore and Greenville Coach Rachael Kerns an opportunity to evaluate their team’s progress to date.
“Somethings I thought we finished well which is a good sign,” said Moore. “That means we can play with our legs tired.”
“We need to do a better job of taking care of the basketball,” said Kerns. “Have to get to the free throw line more and finish them.”
“Greenville came out and ran the floor and pushed our girls up and down the floor at the beginning,” Moore said. “I think that made my girls wake up a little bit. Monday’s are always difficult. I think we were a little rusty tonight, had a lot of turnovers – we have to get those sharpened up.”
“Tonight showed some areas we really need to work on as we move forward this season,” noted Kerns.
“Our effort, our intensity – that was there,” Moore stated. “That’s something we preach every day. Anybody who steps on the floor knows they have to give it their all,”
“Franklin Monroe has a nice team and will win many games this season,” Kerns concluded. “They are well coached and athletic.”
Greenville opens the 2017-2018 season hosting the two day Annie Oakley Shootout, Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25.
The Lady Jets open season play Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25 in the Lady Trojans Tip-Off hosted by Arcanum.
