Lady Wave basketball camp sees large opening day turnout

GREENVILLE – The first day of the 2018 Lady Wave Basketball camp under the direction of head coach Rachael Kerns went off without a hitch with Coach Kerns and her staff looking forward to the remaining three days of camp.

“Three more days,” said Kerns. “I like it especially with the older group. We get a little bit more competitive – that’s fun and then the younger kids, they just show such drastic improvement over the course of the four days.”

Coach Kerns and her coaching staff spend many hours planning the four day event each year.

“I think we do a good job organizing the camp,” noted Kerns. “Every year we say the same thing – we couldn’t do it without the high school girls. We have 23 high school girls here and it’s fun.

Each day begins with the sixth, seventh and eighth grade girls working on drills for two hours – from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. The third, fourth and fifth graders are in the gym from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. with the third session of the day going from 2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. with the youngest group, kindergarten, first and second graders.

“It’s an exhausting day,” Kerns said. “I kind of forget every year how exhausting it gets but it was a really good start to our summer camp. Looking forward to the rest of it.”
