BROOKVILLE – The Lady Jets connected on 14 three-pointers for the second time this year tying their own record for the most triples in a game in their win over Newton in the second round of the OHSAA DIV Brookville Sectional Tournament by the score of 68-14.
The Jets improved to 22-2 overall and will play for a sectional title Monday night at 7:30 pm at Brookville High School where they will take on another league opponent in the 2nd round of the sectionals on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Brookville High School 19-4 Troy Christian.
The Jets opened up firing on all cylinders and scored the first 26 points of the game … but the Indians would get a buzzer beater put-back at the buzzer in the first quarter to make the score 26-2.
Belle Cable picked up right where she left off in the previous game scoring 8 points and two triples in the quarter while Stella Shellabarger added 2 treys and both Corina Conley and Chloe McGlinch each had one for a total of 6 in the quarter.
Belle Cable added two more triples in the 2nd quarter and Chloe Brumbaugh got in the act with one giving the Jets 9 alone in the first half. They would lead 41-8 at the half.
The clock was running after the break that didn’t cool the shooting of Franklin Monroe who put up another 18 points in the 3rd quarter. They would add 9 more points in the 4th quarter all triples on their way to the 68-14 win over the Indians a team they beat in the regular season 68-22.
Franklin Monroe is playing hard and with a lot of confidence right now shooting the basketball and that pleases the Cross County Conference “Coach of the Year” Abbey Moore.
“The way we have shot the ball the last couple of games with confidence is what we have to have in order for us to accomplish what we want to do. We are playing unselfish and sharing the ball really well and getting good play and when we have Stella Shellabarger come off the bench and hit 3 triples and score 15 points or Chloe McGlinch hit 2 triples off the bench it makes for a tough match-up for other teams,” Moore stated.
As much as she is glad to see them clicking on offense she is even more excited about the way the defense is playing.
“Defense is this team’s pride and joy and every game we challenge ourselves and set goals as to what we want to hold the other team too, so if we execute our fundamentals on defense we know we have a chance against anybody we play,” Moore added.
But as they advance in the tournament the games will get harder up next is 19-5 Troy Christian a team the Jets beat in the regular season 43-22 but Moore isn’t taking it lightly.
“It’s a new season in the tournament and teams get better as the season goes along and we need to be ready go Monday night,” Moore concluded.
