UNION CITY, Ind. – The Union City varsity baseball team hosted the Tri High Titans on Thursday afternoon in their first conference showdown of the young season. The Indians played solid defense and battled back late to take a 7-5 victory.
After a scoreless three innings to start the game, Tri struck first in the fourth. Union City answered answered in the bottom of the inning before trailing the Titans after five complete.
The Indians rallied in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and held on to win.
“I’m proud of the way our defense looked tonight,” said Indians Coach Bill Bradbury. “Our guys didn’t commit any errors tonight, and that keeps you in the game, and gives you an opportunity to strike late.”
The Indians offense was led by senior shortstop, Zach Bradbury. Bradbury had three hits on the night, scored one run, and had one run batted in. Bradbury also was lighting it up on the base paths, stealing five bases on the night. Gabe Loesch, (Sr), Trevor Spence, (Sr), Jacob Fulk, (Sr), Cam Luster, (Jr), and Jacob Curry, (Jr), all added a hit for UC. Loesch and Fulk each added 2 RBI’s, while Spence added threee stolen bases.
Loesch started on the hill for the Indians., but was pulled in the second inning due to some tightness in his elbow. Luster relieved Loesch and kept the Indians in the game on the hill. Nic Wells, (So), picked up the win for the Indians, going two strong innings, giving up only one hit. Spence came on in the seventh to shut the door on the Titans and picked up a save.
The Indians are now 1-0 in the conference, and travel to Winchester today looking to remain unbeaten in the TEC.
