GREENVILLE – The seventh and eighth grade Cross County Fast Pitch League Tournament was held this past weekend and Stebbins Field complex with 12 teams taking to the diamonds.
The Greenville’s No. 1 team defeated Ansonia 4-3 to earn the championship trophy. The win gave the Greenville team it’s second league championship in as many years.
“All rec teams play in the Cross County Conference which Howie McClain runs and does a great job,” said Greenville Girls Softball Association (GGSA) President, Eric Fellers. “Teams from Darke, Miami and Preble Counties that play in the league throughout the year.”
Teams included Ansonia, Arcanum, Bradford, Brookville, Eldorado, Franklin Monroe, Greenville No. 1, Greenville No. 2, Miami East, Newton, Tri-Village and West Milton.
“We’ve always hosted the fifth and sixth grade,” Fellers said. “They vote on this every year for the towns to host the tournaments and we got the seventh and eighth grade this year. It’s a nice change of pace.”
“We get some of the older kids out here,” added Fellers. “They are stepping up to that high school rules and starting to learn all many of those rules, so it’s good to get them all out here playing and seeing what these high school programs are going to have here in the next couple of years.”
“There are some really good teams playing in this league and tournament,” concluded Fellers. “Every town has a couple kids that just sparks your eye and it’s like that kid is going to be the next good player for that school – it’s fun to watch.
