RICHMOND, Ind. – A Greenville man, who worked as a correctional officer at the Wayne County Jail, was arrested Thursday night as he entered the facility allegedly carrying contraband – intended for an inmate.
Timothy J. Knight (40) was immediately arrested and booked into the Hancock County Jail on charges of Trafficking with an Inmate, a Level 5 felony and Class A misdemeanor, and with Official Misconduct, a Level 6 felony.
Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa said this is the first instance of trafficking with an inmate by a correctional officer while he has held the office as sheriff.
The Wayne County Drug Task Force and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office worked together as part of the investigation and arrest of Knight. The case has been submitted for review by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
