GHS Lady Wave run-rules Fairborn

FAIRBORN – The Greenville Lady Wave improved to 7-0 in GWOC American North play and 11-3 overall with a 16-5 five inning run-rule win over the Fairborn Lady Skyhawks in a Friday night road game.

“Great day to enjoy the sun and get a GWOC win,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland.

The Lady Wave jumped out to a 6-0 lead with Fairborn battling back to make it a 6-3 game after one inning of play.

Greenville added a run in the top of the second while keeping the home team off the board in the bottom of the inning sending the teams to the third with the Lady Wave holding a 7-3 advantage.

The Lady Wave made it a 12-5 game with three innings in the book and plated four runs in the top of the fourth while keeping the Lady Skyhawks off the board in the bottom of the inning taking a 16-5 lead to the fifth.

Neither team plated a run in the fifth inning of play giving the Girls from Greenville their third consecutive run-rule win and eighth of the season.

Lady Wave sophomore second baseman Haleigh Mayo drilled a homerun out of the park to go along with a single and a double.

“Kids hit the ball hard and solid,” said Newland. “Mayo hit one out – dead center.”

GHS senior Cassie Cromwell banged out four hits including two singles and two doubles, sophomores Morgan Gilbert and Baylee Petry each collected a single and a double.

“Cassie was 4-4 and Mayo had three hits,” noted Newland.

Sophomore Zoe Pressnall and freshman Nyesha Wright each picked up a single in the game. Courtney. Bryson coaxed three walks, Natea Davidson and Wright two each and Gilbert one.

Cromwell led the Lady Wave with four RBIs, Gilbert three, Petry two and Wright, Pressnall, Mayo and Bryson each with an RBI.

The sophomore tandem of Petry and Caitlin Christman shared the duties on the mound in picking up the win for the Lady Wave.

“Excited for our upcoming week with Tipp City (Tippecanoe) series and Skyline on Thursday,” said Coach Newland, “then home on Friday and Saturday noon double-header with Wayne.”

The Lady Wave will be facing the Northmont Lady Bolts, Thursday, April 19th at Wright State University with a 4:30 p.m. start time.

“We get recognized by the Reds and actually get to walk on the field during a game,” Newland said. “Just excited for the kids to take in a Reds game and the Lady Wave Softball Program to be recognized.”
