GREENVILLE – Darke County experienced its first death from COVID-19 on Monday. Carl “Tuffy” Humerick, a resident at Greenville Health & Rehab, passed away suddenly early Monday morning due to complications from the coronavirus.

By Monday afternoon, Tuffy’s special friends, Pastor Sam and Debbie Shilot, began putting a caravan of cars together to parade past his sister’s home, Betty Jo & Junior Ryan. Debbie shared the Stay at Home order from the governor means funeral homes are delaying celebrations of life services or having private services for family members and they wanted to show how much they loved Tuffy.

Approximately 15 to 20 cars assembled in the parking lot at Edison State Community College and paraded past Tuffy’s sister’s house and other places Tuffy enjoyed. The parade included friends and members of Triumphant Christian Center.

According to his obituary, Tuffy loved to eat and play games, especially with all of the wonderful ladies from the nursing home.

No services are currently scheduled for Tuffy.
