Franklin Monroe defeats Arcanum

PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Jets took the nightcap in the opening round of the Jet Holiday Tournament 60-54 over the Arcanum Trojans.

“I thought our defensive effort was really good,” said FM coach Troy Myers. “I think we’re playing the pace the game presents and we did that tonight.”

The Jets jumped out to a 13-5 score after one period of play led by Ethan Conley’s six points.

Period No. 2 went to Arcanum with five Trojans getting putting points on the board to outscore FM 15-10 and send the teams to the break with FM holding a 23-20 advantage.

Lane Byrne paced Arcanum with six points to lead the Trojans to a 17-16 third quarter advantage over the Jets sending the teams to fourth quarter play with FM holding a slim 39-37 lead.

Seven Carter Gray points including a triple and two Evan Atchley three pointers helped Arcanum to 17 fourth quarter points but it was Jordan Rhoades’ nine points including a triple and 2-2 at the line, Conley’s six points, Connor Crist’s four points including 2-2 at the charity stripe and 2-2 at the line from Ky Cool to lead the Jets to a 21 point fourth quarter to take the win and move into the Championship game.

“We held them to 20 in the first half and 54 on the game,” Myers noted. “I loved our defensive effort.”

Conley led Franklin Monroe and all scorers with a game high 18 points.
