GREENVILLE – Greenville Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 930 Wayne Ave. in Greenville Monday evening.
Firefighters discovered heavy smoke from the upper section of the 1-1/2 story home upon arriving at the scene. Greenville Township Fire Department was later called to aid in extinguishing the fire.
A Greenville City Police officer made forced entry into the home prior to the arrival of the fire department to free two small dogs that were inside the smoke-filled residence. The homeowner and his child were not present at the time of the blaze. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage. Local Red Cross was dispatched to assist the residents.
According to family, the homeowner just purchased the house and only got to spend one night in the home before the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
