County ACME teams compete in Sectional play

CLAYTON – The Greenville ACME team lost to Vandalia ACME in a Saturday first round District 7 Sectional tournament game by a score of 10-9 in extra innings.

Versailles followed the Greenville game with a 10-0 run rule loss to Tipp City in six-innings of play pitting Greenville against Versailles in the loser’s bracket in the double elimination tournament.

In the first game Greenville trailed 1-0 in the top of the fourth before putting 3-runs on the board in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-1 before Vandalia plated five runs in the top of the fifth to go up 6-3.

Greenville added two runs in the bottom of the fifth cutting Vandalia’s lead to 5-6 only to have Vandalia take a 9-5 in the top of the sixth while keeping Greenville off the board in the bottom of the inning to lead 9-5 with one-inning to play.

Greenville held Vandalia scoreless in the top of the seventh while plating four runs in the bottom of the inning sending the game to extra innings tied 9-9.

Neither team would score over the following two-innings but it was Vandalia knocking in a run in the top of the tenth while keeping Greenville off the board in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-9 win.

In the second game Tipp City’s pitching limited Versailles three hits while striking 15-hitters leading Tipp City 10-0 six-inning run rule victory.
