Edgar D. “Curly” Coons, 83, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away Saturday May 2, 2020, at 2:14 a.m. at his residence. He was born November 23, 1936, in York Twp. Darke County, Ohio, the son of the late Albert D. and Devetta Irene (Derr) Coons.
Curly was a lifelong carpenter and construction worker and was owner/operator of Coons Construction.
Curly was a graduate of Versailles High School; was an Honorary Member of the Versailles Vets Club; he was a well-known baseball player and an avid softball player; he loved fishing, gardening and was a spirited card player. He will be remembered by family and friends for his kindness, sense of humor, creativity and resourcefulness. He always played the hand he was dealt in cards and in life; enjoying the good hands and persevering through the bad hands.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Delores Weist, and Darlene Haber; his in-laws: Richard and Patricia Rauckhorst, Peg and John Baltes, and Kearney Pequignot.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Kay (Pequignot) Coons; his children and spouses: Jim and Nancy Coons, Beth and Vince Serraino, Susan Coons Barga, and Annette and John Worden; his grandchildren: David and Elizabeth Coons, Aaron and Mallory Coons, Marisa and Mitch Kremer, Kyle and Nicole Cox, Alex and Malorie Cox, Luke and Megan Cox, and Amy Worden; nine great grandchildren; his in-laws: Nancy Pequignot, and Jack and Jeanne Turpen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Brock Cemetery on Monday May 11, 2020, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Nick Dimmick officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles. Memorial contributions may be made to the Versailles Vets Club or Versailles Area Emergency Services.
