GREENVILLE – Bart Schmitz has been tapped as the new head football coach for the Greenville Green Wave football program pending Thursday night Board approval.
“I know he’s excited and looking forward to the opportunity,” Greenville Athletic Director and former Wave football coach Aaron Shaffer said of Schmitz. “He will do a good job leading the Green Wave.”
Schmitz brings a wealth of experience to the Wave program having played high school football for the legendary Versailles Tigers Coach Al Hetrick.
“We went through the interview process – Bart has extensive experience as an assistant coach, as a coordinator, has had good experiences as a Versailles alum, played under Al Hetrick,” noted Shaffer. “His experience through his high school playing days and then his coaching experience with guys like Dick Roll (Sidney Lehman), some of those experiences coaching with his dad (Dave Schmitz), his uncles and things like that who had extensive experience at Versailles and other places as well.”
Coach Hetrick accumulated a 334-95-4 record including 18 conference championships, 16 playoff appearances, 13 regional titles, three state runner-up finishes and six state titles.
