This entire facility will help Wayne HealthCare provide for Darke Countys needs in a more sophisticated and private way, according to Deschambeau.
"Our 19-room Emergency Department will be able to handle the ever-increasing workload while doing so in a more private and secure way. We have dedicated critical care rooms and a safe room," said Suzie OBrien, RN, nurse manager of the Emergency Services Center and ICU.
"Well be using bedside registration and our physicians and nurses have many new tools to help in diagnosis and treatment," she added.
In the Imaging Center (Radiology) new x-ray equipment and a new CT Scanner provide upgraded technology with increased safety.
"The new 40-slice CT scanner is designed for tailored workflow and clinical needs. It makes complex procedures routine. The new X-ray equipment reduces patient discomfort and automates routine processes," said Mike Mattheis, Director of the Imaging Services Center.
The new X-ray machine a Siemens Axiom Luminous is so cutting-edge that it is the first one placed in North America.
According to Mattheis, the X-Ray machines, which are digital, tilt, and lower to make it easier on patients and staff in getting quicker, more detailed images.
"Our Nuclear Medicine Department offers diagnostic radionuclide imaging on one of two Siemens e-cams as well as therapeutic procedures for certain diseases. We are planning for an in-house MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner sometime in 2011."
The Cardiopulmonary Center has added a third cardiac stress test treadmill, as well as a Cardioserver that allows physicians to view EKGs remotely on a computer, according to Shelly Acker, Director of the Cardiopulmonary Services Center. "We are adding an Echo bed for optimal viewing of echocardiograms. Vascular ultrasound and echo have gone digital for improved imaging," she added.
A new Intensive Care Unit will be built beginning in April in a space that was shelled in during the new buildings construction, according to Deschambeau.
There will be six ICU beds in the new state-of-the-art Unit. Construction is expected to be complete by late 2010 to early 2011.
